Stuart on the UK’s BBC National Radio Five Live.

Stuart has taking part in the Julian Worricker show "Worricker on Sunday” on the UK’s BBC Radio Five Live.

The show had an in-dept feature on mental heath in UK society exploring views and opinions on the recent financial cut backs on mental health services in the NHS. As many as one in four UK adults will suffer from a mental illness at some point in their lives. In the Five Live Report, Elodie Harper investigates why so little is being done to protect this vast, yet stigmatised group. As she uncovers, despite numerous government promises of reform, thousands of people's lives are still being made a misery by poor community care, crippling NHS budget cuts and widespread discrimination.

A Tale of Two Mountains will capture Stuart’s epic Everest attempt next year in a defining journey which will see him battle against sub-zero temperatures, extreme weather, the immense physical strain and the intense mental stress to finally conquer a 10 year battle with his mind.

The team behind the documentary will commence pre-production on this amazing tale this autumn.  Schizophrenia is a feared and forgotten illness which destroys families and wrecks the lives of over 51 million people worldwide.  Everyone involved with the project is committed to challenging the illness and the stereotypical image it portrays.  With over 250 000 Britons diagnosed with Schizophrenia the team hope that the final film will inspire people to rethink perceptions of the illness and provide hope to those living each day with the hidden illness for which there is no cure.

Stuart Returns from 4800 metre high Mera Peak
Mental Health hero Stuart Baker-Brown returned from trekking 4800 metres up Mera Peak in Nepal as part of his training for his summit attempt on Mount Everest next year.  "Trekking up Mera Peak was the hardest thing I have ever done", Stuart commented "There were shear drops everywhere."  The team trekked for 3 weeks in conditions close to those on Mount Everest. "Its been ideal training for me.  My medication has worked and I have not had as much altitude sickness as I expected."

The weather stopped the team from reaching the top of Mera Peak but Stuart would like to return to conquer Mera before the end of the year "I know I can reach the top of Everest and now I know what training I need to do this year to make sure it happens."  During the trek Stuart kept written diaries which are available by clicking here.
