Log Line:
Stuart Baker-Brown has two mountains to conquer in an epic struggle against Mount Everest and a hidden illness - paranoid schizophrenia…  It’s a battle he intends to win.

Synopsis:
Everest, the world’s highest mountain is the ultimate mountaineer’s challenge, to conquer the greatest obstacle our planet has to offer, but Stuart is no ordinary climber.  Coping with freezing temperatures, a lack of oxygen and physical fatigue, Stuart must also win a battle with his mind.

A Tale of Two Mountains is a documentary film that will follow the first man with paranoid schizophrenia to climb Everest.

51 million people worldwide have Schizophrenia (over 1% of the planets population).
There is no cure.

In a defining journey Stuart will struggle against sub-zero temperatures, extreme weather, the immense physical strain of climbing to the height of jumbo jets and the intense mental stress caused by schizophrenia to finally conquer a 10 year conflict with his mind.

Since visiting Moscow in 1991 Stuart has heard voices, distorting his reality with strange paranoid beliefs that detach his thinking from our world.  His life changed when he thought that the KGB followed him back to the UK.  Now, just walking to the end of his street can be an arduous task as voices tell him to jump in front of passing cars or convince him that aliens exist.

To stay alive on Everest, Stuart must control these voices of paranoia.  The extra stress and fatigue he will encounter will fuel their power but Stuart must fight to stay in control.  At 23 times the height of the Empire State Building he will prove that you can focus your mind to conquer massive physical challenges and immense mental ones.

In this epic voyage of self-discovery a determined Stuart will show that mental illness should not be feared or forgotten.

White Lantern Film has exclusive access to the expedition which aims to climb Everest between April and May 2007.

Think March of the Penguins or Story of the Weeping Camel. For the stunning visuals think: Brokeback Mountain.
